LET'S TAKE A BREAK AND COUNT SOME BLESSINGS

As we watched the completely dishonest, hate-driven attempts by Democrats, other progressives and statists to derail Brett Kavanaugh’s nomination to America’s Supreme Court, it began to be too much.

As we further witnessed the unraveling of conspiracies involving those same Democrats, etc., plus the corruption at the top levels of the Federal Bureau of Investigation and Department of Justice, assisted by their allies in the lamestream media, it pushed us to the wall.

It’s time to pull out the stops, cast off the restraints and say what we really know and feel in order to clarify the truth about all these things, to hold these ill-intentioned people to account and try to right the wrongs.

But just then an inspiring moment. We saw a replay of the 1991 examination of then-judge Clarence Thomas by Senator Orrin Hatch. We stepped back and took a breath.

It was an extremely moving scene of two real men – of very decent character, maturity, supreme intelligence, and moral clarity – that turned around the travesty those same people were trying to make of that nomination.

It was the perfect counterpoint to a replay of the vile, ultimate sin we saw earlier. The one that kicked off the efforts of Democrats, progressives and statists to hijack the Supreme Court and destroy our country: Ted Kennedy’s 1987 “Robert Bork’s America” speech. Driven by hate, dishonesty and viciousness, Kennedy lied copiously and maliciously slandered Judge Bork in unprecedented ways the Democrats would continue to employ right up to today.

Meditating briefly on the Hatch/Thomas exchange refocused our view of the world. The triumph over evil that it produced after Chappaquiddick Ted’s mega-obscenity said there’s hope that good will triumph over evil.

So we decided to offer you a short list of joys in life, of progress, of goodness, of reasons to be hopeful, albeit not complacent.

We begin, of course, with family. We are so blessed in this regard, and we hope you are too.

How about the good people of our communities? When Ron’s daughter Karyn needed medical help at an event Saturday, a number of people stepped up right away, including particularly Dr. Robin Titus and nurse Eileen Rice. Plus the Muzzys, the Beers and others. We revere all of them always, but bless them especially for that help. Karyn is now completely well.

Some technological things seem small and perhaps
unimportant, but they improve everyone’s lives greatly. Both of us got new vehicles in the last two years and we often rent cars when we travel. Almost all of them now include back-up cameras, electronic navigation support and similar features that greatly improve safety, convenience and human well-being.

Although the monopoly public school system is still unduly favored by public policy, many students now benefit from on-line home-schooling, charter schools and other innovations that actually improve education for our children, instead of serving special-interest provider groups.

Even in the health care and insurance blob that threatens to lay waste to our economy and deny an equitable future to Nevada’s children and grandchildren we find some hope. Without the surgical advances and medical devices of recent decades, Ron now would probably be riding a wheel chair or on crutches for the rest of his life. And Vicki Smack would face a grim future without her medical alert dog Oreo.

It’s almost a cliché to praise communication and data technologies, but that doesn’t make them any less a blessing. People who don’t write columns, etc. may not know how much easier it is now to find information immediately that previously required extensive research or that simply could not be accessed. Our daily work and our writing have been greatly improved by the Internet.

And those who regularly travel can keep in immediate touch with their families, offices and colleagues and make adjustments on the run. As illustrated by the hurricane and flooding in the Carolinas, these means also save lives and property.

Oh, and a Constitution that resists many assaults.

All this is not to say the evils that pushed us to the wall before we saw that ray of hope are any less threatening than they seemed. But reflecting on these things renews our hope and strength.

Democrats have hit a new low.  Beyond Antifa.  Beyond plain socialism.  Beyond the Clinton lies and corruption.  Beyond any reason and decency.
They dug up and then hid an accusation that Supreme Court Justice nominee Brett Kavanaugh was involved in sexual misconduct when he was in high school.
Not a series of continuing transgressions.  Not an incident ten years ago, or from law school, or from his undergraduate college days.  But in high school.
We guess they couldn’t find the girl Kavanaugh with whom played “post office” in kindergarten.
The same Democrats who looked the other way when Senator Ted Kennedy drowned a woman in his car and ran away to conceal his drunkenness.  They’re taking issue with something that allegedly happened when Kavanaugh was a minor.
As Denis Leary once said: “Good senator, but a bad date.”  We agree only with the second part.
These are the same Democrats presently turning a blind eye to Democrat National Committee Vice Chairman and sitting Congressman Keith Ellison who has two different accusers, complete with 911 call records and records of restraining orders, accusing him of assault.  They turn a blind eye to that, since they need Ellison to become the next attorney general of Minnesota.
He’s just one of many Democrats who’ve assaulted women and been supported by their party in major political races.
Ellison is part of the Democrat Party protected class, just like Kennedy.  Protected by their fellow Democrats, both male and female.  Protected by the destroy-Trump media.  Protected much better than the women Ellison allegedly assaulted and Kennedy killed.
Back to the accusation at hand, even though there are many such verified stories of Democrats’ misconduct.
Once it began to look certain Brett Kavanaugh’s confirmation was becoming a fait accompli, all of a sudden Democrats presented an accuser’s story from about 36 years ago.  Or 35 years.  Or whenever.  And wherever, because Christine Blasey Ford, the alleged victim, can’t remember what house it was.
And her recent accounts of details don’t square with her first accounts of six years ago.
Democrat Senator Dianne Feinstein had this information in July and shared it with Democrats but no Republicans.  Instead of raising it timely when she examined Judge Kavanaugh in open hearings or in private interviews, she hid it to use after the hearings in order to stall a vote on his appointment.
By doing so, she demonstrated conclusively there’s no good faith or decent intent with the Democrats.  This is certainly not about giving Dr. Ford’s accusations a fair hearing.  It’s about delay, delay, delay.  Nothing more.  It’s all lies and political machinations.
But then, after saying she wants a hearing, Ford says she doesn’t.  And Feinstein says maybe Ford’s allegations aren’t “truthful.”
So now they want an investigation by the Federal Bureau of Investigation.  Despite the fact the FBI already investigated him in each of his appointments
What’s really going on here is that Democrats know that some Republican senators, maybe only Jeff Flake of Arizona and Bob Corker of Tennessee, have such a sick hatred for President Donald Trump that they will help the Democrats kill the ideal Supreme Court nomination.  And assist the meanest, most hateful, vicious and dishonest character assassination in memory.
When numerous Democrats were asked what showing Kavanaugh could make to establish his innocence, they said – really – that there is no way in their minds he can.  He’s guilty because he’s a white male and she’s a woman who has made a vague sexual misconduct claim against him.  So much for the presumption of innocence, one of the key pillars of our democracy.
It’s a reprise of the high-tech lynching of Justice Clarence Thomas all over again.  Get all the way through the confirmation process, knowing that the Democrat senators played their hands and lost in the hearings.  Then, all of a sudden bring vague accusations because there is no other way to stop the confirmation.
We think Ford believes her claims.  That’s not to say they are true or well-founded at all.  People who have serious psychological problems often believe patently false claims they make.
There’s no integrity in the Democrat actions.  But you’d never glean that from the lamestream media.

JACKY ROSEN NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND THE ADA

On a recent trip to New England, James and his wife Vicki were flying with Vicki’s service dog, Oreo. As with many Reno originating flights, they needed to fly to Las Vegas before connecting to Hartford, Connecticut.

Oreo is a service animal, trained to monitor Vicki’s blood sugar changes and notify her, preventing her from physical harm from her diabetes. Oreo is very good at her job, which she takes seriously. She is incredibly accurate, as anyone who has seen her alert on Vicki can attest.

Oreo is particularly important when Vicki is sleeping, because she has had significant sugar drops in the night. Oreo will wake her to get her to test and elevate her sugar before going back to bed. Because this sweet pretty little pup performs such services so well, Vicki can live a normal life.

Back to the flight from Reno to Las Vegas. Although they did not see her sit down, Democrat U.S. senate candidate Jacky Rosen sat in the row immediately behind the Smacks on the flight.

During the flight, Vicki overheard Congresswoman Rosen making disparaging remarks about dogs being on planes and saying she does not allow dogs into her Congressional offices.

Congresswoman, you may want to review the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) as part of your campaign. The ADA allows a service animal such as Oreo to fly on any commercial airline at any time. It also allows service animals to go nearly anywhere with their persons, likely including your Congressional offices.

So, our question to you is this: “Are you satisfied violating the Americans with Disabilities Act simply because you dislike dogs or for whatever reason?”

So much for liberal tolerance.

James and Vicki will be the first to admit there are far too many people with dogs in airports, and many are not well behaved. A dog on public transportation in Portland lunged at Oreo. A German Shepard, supposedly a service dog, lunged at her in the Denver airport when the Smacks were walking between flights on one of their trips.

We submit that any dog going after other dogs, whether in a friendly manner or otherwise, in a place like an airport or on public transportation, is not a good service animal. Oreo is trained to do her job, and the environment around her has limited effect on her performance of it.

Given these personal incidents, plus the growing number of people with emotional support animals who bring them on planes even though they are not well trained, we agree such animals can be a nuisance with barking and disturbing other passengers. We would agree with the Congresswoman that there are plenty of dogs that have no business being on a plane other than in the cargo hold.

When James and Vicki are on flights, most passengers don’t even know Oreo is there. That, Congresswoman Rosen, is a well-trained service animal. The only reason you knew she was there is because you were sitting right behind James and Vicki and you saw Oreo on Vicki’s lap. Sleeping.

However, we would caution you against judging every dog by the actions of a few. There are many dogs, just like Oreo, that fly every day and cause no problems. Having a service animal allows people like Vicki, with a disability visible or invisible, to lead normal lives.

Oreo has attended football and baseball games, traveled cross country several times on planes, been on boats and trains, and attended a Neil Diamond concert. Her favorite song? Sweet Caroline, of course!

A well trained and disciplined service animal should not be a nuisance to others and is a valuable partner to its human.

Congresswoman, we hope you learn the provisions and protections of the ADA. James and Vicki would be happy to meet with you and introduce you to Oreo. They would not only detail their concerns about what you said, but also work with you on constructive ideas to keep animals out of airports and off flights that have no business being there.

If you don’t want Oreo in your office, Ron is quite willing to host such a meeting in his office the next time you’re in Carson City.JACKY ROSEN NEEDS TO UNDERSTAND THE ADA
